We appear to be unable to accomplish anything at home without Wi-Fi, yet we pay little attention to the technical aspects of our wireless internet connection. In our house, who’s online? How can I persuade my children to switch off their gadgets while doing schoolwork or eating dinner?
Xfinity provides options for greater control and visibility over your home network with Xfinity xFi, a digital dashboard set up to enable Xfinity customers to manage their home Wi-Fi.
xFi Gateway is a device that allows you to connect to the
This internet modem and Wi-Fi router combine the features of xFi to provide increased coverage. The xFi Advanced Gateway, the most recent version, supports Wi-Fi 6, which is geared for better speeds and the rising number of networked devices in our homes.
The router also features four dual-band antennas that handle both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port, three 1 Gbps Ethernet ports, and Bluetooth LE and Zigbee radios, according to Xfinity. Unlike the original, which was only available in black, this variant is also white.
All of this will come at a price. The xFi Gateway costs $14 per month in addition to your internet service, which begins at $39.99 per month. You do, however, have alternative possibilities.
Make your own decisions
You may save money on monthly internet charges by purchasing your modem and router, but make sure you do your homework beforehand and get suitable equipment. (If you’re thinking about buying your equipment from a third party, check out our recommendations for the best Xfinity routers and modems based on speed.) Of course, you won’t have the control features provided by the xFi Gateway if you go this route.
It’s worth noting that if you don’t use Xfinity equipment, you’ll be without 24/7 tech assistance. So, if you find yourself phoning for help often, using their equipment may be worthwhile.
Benefits of xFi
Personalization, family controls and administration, and security alerts are some of the features of xFi. Unlike some other providers, xFi enables you to customize your network’s title and password – something everyone in the family can remember – as well as the name and profile of each of the linked devices.
You can monitor connected devices in the xFi app and halt Wi-Fi access for specific users’ devices at critical moments (think: homework time, dinner, or bedtime). You may also get real-time information about who and when is connecting into your home network.
Personalization
There will be no more scribbling down random numbers and letters. Create user accounts, name connected devices, and personalize your network title and password.
Management
Control who goes online and establish individual Wi-Fi curfews and routines – or turn off coverage entirely when it’s time for family time.
Protection and safety
Families may use parental controls to select kid-friendly internet surfing settings. This service, which is also free if you sign up for the xFi Gateway, safeguards your home’s connected devices against internet dangers. (Note that if you lease an xFi Gateway, Advanced Cybersecurity safeguards for your network are included at no additional cost.)
Necessary: If you choose to furnish your modem or router instead of leasing an Xfinity Gateway, you won’t be able to enjoy xFi Advanced Cybersecurity. It’s a feature available only to Xfinity customers who also lease an Xfinity Gateway.
Optional extras
These compact plug-in Wi-Fi extenders may be used with a compatible xFi Gateway to help remove “dead spots” in your house when coverage decreases or is poor. xFi Pods are designed for households with many storeys or extra-large square footage with connection challenges. They provide a more constant range throughout your home. With your account, the 3-Pod bundle costs $119.
Surveillance cams
Security cameras that record 24/7 and detect people, cars, and pets are also available, as are live indoor/outdoor cameras with HD video feeds.
How should I return my equipment?
It seems to be a straightforward procedure. You may return your Xfinity equipment by logging into the Digital Return Center, printing a prepaid return label, and dropping it off at any UPS location.
You may be able to move your equipment to your new house if you’re driving and want to maintain your current service. It all depends on your new location and the Xfinity services that are accessible.
You’ll need to go to this page and fill out the return form to return xFi Pods specifically. After you’ve completed the form, you’ll get an email with instructions on proceeding with your return.
