Set photos from the upcoming film ‘Madame Web’ may tease a link to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man films.
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe of films is continuing to expand. The series of films, which started with the 2018 film Venom, has had two more films release since then: Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Morbius. Now, two new films are currently in production: Kraven the Hunter, and Madame Web. The latter film in question looks to be particularly unique, and some new set photos have some fans thinking that there are links to the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies.
In particular, this set photo from Madame Web caught the eye of some fans. Here, we see newspaper kiosks, including one for the Daily Bugle. What caught some fans’ attention is a headline that reads, “Bravest pulls girl from fire.” For fans of Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man 2, this could be a reference to the scene in which Peter Parker rescues a girl from a building that was caught on fire:
Is Tobey Maguire coming back again?
Spider-Man: No Way Home was a critical and commercial success for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, and the element of the film that remains the most-discussed nearly eight months since it hit theaters was the return of both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective versions of Peter Parker. Madame Web looks to further expand Sony’s franchise of standalone films featuring Spidey characters, and while much of the film’s plot remains under wraps, the prospect of returning to the Sam Raimi films is intriguing, especially since the concept of the Multiverse remains a prominent tool in comic book filmmaking right now.
Tobey Maguire was last seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here is the synopsis:
For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to return to theaters on September 2, 2022 with The More Fun Stuff Version. Meanwhile, Madame Web is set to be released on October 6, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Sony’s various spinoff films, as well as the future of Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker.
