Chris Hemsworth’s Thor: Love and Thunder just crossed the $300 million mark at the domestic box office.
The newest film from Marvel Studios, Thor: Love and Thunder just crossed the $300 million mark at the domestic box office. The film, which is the fourth standalone outing for Chris Hemsworth and the second Marvel film from Taika Waititi has become the sixth film of 2022 to cross the $300 million domestic mark.
Box Office Is Booming.
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor: Love and Thunder joins the likes of Top Gun: Maverick, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Batman, Jurassic World Dominion, and Minions: Rise of Gru in crossing the $300 million mark. The fact that six films have crossed this mark in 2022 with a little over half the year over is quite the impressive bounce back for the theater industry after a rough two years amidst the pandemic.
The sequel crossing the $300 million mark is also notable given that Chris Hemsworth’s latest film has been subject to some of the most mixed reception that any recent MCU film has faced. Although the film isn’t without its fans, critics and audiences have both felt pretty mixed about the film’s sense of humor and tone, especially when taken into account with the rest of the franchise’s Phase 4, which has been subject to much criticism online as of late.
Here is the synopsis for the film:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
